Mast Progress 12/10/21

And so it begins! The schooner MARTHA main mast project is finally underway after years of planning and don’t think that those years were idle because not only were designs and details finalized but four of those years were spent seasoning stacks of beautiful custom milled Sitka spruce.

Laid out in the Northwest Maritime building, long time MARTHA supporter and retired board member Doug Jones has started erecting and perfecting (as only Doug can do) the spar bench using stout purpose built saw horses.  Notice how Doug uses a string line stretched tight and a small block of wood to check the height of each station to make sure the bench will be completely flat. Any station which is high gets the delicate touch of Doug’s mighty planer.

If you have not had the chance to donate to the project, or have and are in a giving mood, please contact us and be a part of this incredible project.  Everything helps, whether it’s one dollar, a hundred thousand dollars or just thirty minutes of your day.

We’ll get the photos posted soon!
