Our last sail training trip of the fall in Southern California has us saying a fond farewell to these amazing islands. We spent a night anchored in Frenchy’s Cove on Anacapa Island, with only a small beach to explore for wild bird bones and interesting rocks and shells. The south side of Santa Cruz provided wild and secure anchorages in Coches Prietos and Willows.
Some of our crew were able to experience their first ever night passage as we motor-sailed to Catalina Island. A great experience. A night in Catalina’s Cat Harbor followed by another night passage to a beautiful sunrise sailing into San Diego Harbor. We are now snug at the guest dock of Southwestern Yacht Club and meeting a lot of wonderful folks here who are interested in MARTHA and her adventure. The Club hosted a fun reception where we were able to share history of MARTHA, the Educational / Vacation opportunities and Marine Trades in Port Townsend.
Next up MARTHA sails for Mexico, bound for the Sea of Cortez. After clearing in to Ensenada we will proceed to Isla San Marten for Thanks giving, we hope to rendezvous with Alyce and Sugar Flanagan aboard CHEERIO II and then gunk hole our way down the outside of BAJA with stops including Bahia Tortugas, Bahia Santa Maria and Bahia Magdalena.
More info will follow as we continue the adventure.
