MARTHA continues to explore and learn new areas for the NW Crew. We are pretty sure that MARTHA has been to many of these places before……. Fall has been truely lovely here and we feel blessed to be able to enjoy this mild weather.! ! ! In Newport Beach Harbor we were able to secure anchorage in an area that would most likely be very full at a different time of year. Here we obtained a small “danforth” style anchor. This will be used for a temporary stern hook for MARTHA in some circumstances and allows us to anchor RYDER off of tempting beaches that have too much of a surf break to want to row into. We thank John Pettit for this. ! ! We met more of the family of one of MARTHA’s previous owners. Angela had been tracking us along the coast and she and her husband, Todd, were able to visit briefly in Santa Barbara. She invited some other family members and they came on board in Newport. MARTHA’s soul continues to inspire and bring people together. Long time Port Townsend youth Maritime educator, and Sea Scout Captain, Kim Aldrich, was able to sail with her daughter Anne over the past week. We culminated the week with a daysail including a large part of her family on a fairly perfect day. Thank you Kim for all you do to bring maritime education to so many!! We were also happy to be able to host Rick Valdez from Challenge Sailcloth for a visit. Challenge “Marblehead” weave has been our cloth of choice for MARTHA’s sails. Rick and Challenge made it possible for MARTHA to be able to obtain the cloth needed for our new suit of sail, which we highly value.! ! Light NE winds have dominated the region the past few days bringing very dry and warm conditions, just right for snorkeling and sailing north-west. Tomorrow we will board our last fall trip, from Oxnard to San Diego, then we prepare for Baja.
