FEBRUARY 3rd PROJECT UPDATE

February 3rd up date.mov Watch on Posterous

The spar layout continues in the Northwest Maritime Center Boat Shop with the birds mouth staves being scarphed, planed, and sawn.
Final taper  layout will be completed and the taper will be sawn in Monday the 6th with a dry run assembly on the 8th and the glue up on the 9th.
Down in Boat Haven at Martha,  the team has been busy with fairing the fore foot and ballast keel, final shaping of the rudder and wooding the transom.
The keel deadwood timber was a bit shy on width to match the lead shape. Our choices were to plane the lead down,  fill the wood out with fairing putty,   or glue on a 1/2″ layer of larch and fair that down, we chose the later.
We are waiting for some bronze rod to arrive from Alaska Copper so Port Townsend Foundry can thread up the last of the keel bolts.
All the keel bolts should be home by the mid week so we can plug and fair the lead. The rudder will be ready to go to Turn point Design  for infusion on Monday, we should have the rudder back and ready for install when the lift picks Martha up for re-blocking.
We have scheduled a re-blocking for the 10th so we can set Martha up for sanding and painting.  If all goes well we will launch on March 30th.
