Martha is back in the water today and we are thanking our latest donors and volunteers.
Max is a new apprentice who has been helping out with various projects in the shop and looking forward to more!!!! Thank you to all the hard working folks at The PT Shipwrights Coop , they have once again allowed us to borrow staging for our painting and varnishing. Our supporters are invaluable to the overall picture of maintaining MARTHA and providing sail training programs to the public.
Rigging continues in the NWMaritime Center shop with board member Doug Jones doing a fantastic job of repairing the Main mast, with the help of volunteers painting is reaching completion. Thanks to the NW Maritime Center for the use of the boat shop, which by the way is also a great spar shop.
Special thanks to Pete Langley of Port Townsend Foundry for building a new wheel shaft for MARTHA’s helm, the old shaft was quite worn and it was a bit of a concern. Pete said “Bring it in and I will take a look at it.”
He had it on Thursday and by Sunday morning he called to say the shaft will be ready Monday for the Tuesday launch. Take a look at the photos; the work is perfect and MARTHA’s helm is better than new.
Pete installed a casting on the shaft for the wheel to back into which supplied the necessary support, tuned up the key way and made a new wheel nut. What great service!
