Last Saturday we had a fantastic reunion with alumni of Camp Four Winds Westward Ho.
A wonderful afternoon rail down sail with smiles all around and stories some 40 years old of sailing, singing, and stowaways.
Once again we are reminded of MARTHA’s enduring legacy. Timeless Connectedness, the fond memories and excitement of MARTHA on the faces of the campers today as it was long ago.
The same as it ever was………..
Here is an post sail email from Doug Thom who has had a long relationship with MARHTA and Camp.
Hi Robert,
Thanks very much for a delightful sail yesterday. I enjoyed getting a chance to talk at dinner as well.
Below is the photo you asked me to send. This was taken in the summer of 1972 in Spring Passage with Orcas Island in the background. Dave Johansen was skipper that year and he’s at the wheel, and first mate John Barnes is on the boomkin. Dave was fond of the long red pennant on the main mast. I shot the photo from for spreaders of the Great Pumpkin which was Carlyn’s boat at the time.
The slide show of the restoration work was terrific – what a labor of love. All of that good work must feel comforting as you contemplate the long voyage to Honolulu.
Best Regards, Doug
