Spring is here and work on MARTHA is moving in many directions. MARTHA’s Main Mast was unstepped on March 21st and Tuesday the 25th Martha was hauled out. A Measurer connected with the TransPac, Gary Morgan, was working with Captain Robert d’Arcy hours after MARTHA was stationary in her spot in Port of Port Townsend Boat Haven. Thanks to the crew of the shipyard for their elegant competence in lifting and parking her on the hard. The haul out is part of MARTHA’s regular yearly maintenance when her bottom and topsides are painted.
Un-stepping of MARTHA’s mast was not scheduled but due to a scarf joint loosening seen during the spring inspection aloft, it was decided that a Dutchman scarf repair was needed. The mast is at the NorthWest Maritime Center. Board member Doug Jones is repairing the mast.
The final touches on MARTHA’s Main Sail are being done by crew member Holly Kays with the assistance of Annie Aldrich at the same time as the mast work and routine maintenance are being completed. Thanks again to the volunteers and crew who donate many hours to accomplish these tasks.
